Answers to some commonly asked questions Hanwood Fish Hatchery receives
When are the fish available?
The breeding of native fish is seasonal, fingerlings are available from December – March.
How much do fingerlings cost?
Please contact us by phone or email to discuss prices as price depends on quantity and species.
How big are fingerlings for sale?
We sell all species of fish at 40-50mm.
How do I get them?
Farm dam orders can be picked up from the hatchery by prior arrangement. They will be packed in bags and boxes ready for travel and can last packed provided not opened and kept cool for 12-24 hours.
Bulk stockings are delivered by specially made bulked transporters to the destination nominated by the stocking group at a time that suits the members.
Do I have to feed the fish in my farm dam, if so can I use chook pellets?
NO.
Chook pellets are high fibre they drop to the bottom and will build up and ferment causing water quality problems then your stock won’t drink and the fish will die. Lower stocking rates approximately 400 per hectare requires no supplementary feeding as enough natural food is in the dam.
Where do I get fish food for aquaponics?
Check with your local produce store, many have it in stock or they will order it in.
Do you export?
In years gone by we did export but not now. We prefer to concentrate on giving the best quality fish and service to our Australian customers.
